Global Report on the Situation of Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs) 2012
WHRDs are exposed to the same types of risks that all other HRDs face.
However, they are also exposed to gender-based violence and gender-specific risks because they challenge existing gender norms within their communities and societies.
The Global Report on the Situation of Women Human Rights Defenders is an initiative of the Women Human Rights Defenders International Coalition (WHRD International Coalition) to articulate the challenges faced by women human rights defenders and how best to respond to them.
The APF Regional Action Plan on Human Rights Defenders (RAP) places WHRDs at the forefront of its framework for protection and promotion.
The RAP recognises that trans and non-binary HRDs face different and sometimes more complex protection challenges because of their gender identities.
The RAP considers trans women as WHRDs.
