As part of their human rights obligations, states must protect against climate change-related human rights abuse by businesses both domestically and extraterritorially.

In 2019 the UN Special Rapporteur on the Environment and Human Rights put together a compendium of effective actions to simultaneously address climate change and protect human rights with examples from across the globe.
